Alexander The Great: Эти трэшеры родом из солнечной Греции, год образования - 1999-й, и за все это время выпустили лишь один-единственный альбом (пара демо не в счет). С другой стороны, у парней было достаточно времени, чтобы максимально отточить свое мастерство и продумать до мелочей свое творчество. Результат - перед вами. Начинается все достаточно мирно, однако пусть вас не обманывает акустическое атмосферное интро - сразу после него начинается тяжеловесный, мрачный олд-скульный трэш с небольшим креном в дэт-метал, в духе ранней Sepultura. Кстати, недаром седьмым треком на альбоме идёт "Antichrist" - кавер на песню этих легендарных бразильцев с самого первого их сплита "Bestial Devastation" - добротное рубилово с пулемётной ритм-секцией. Вокал в исполнении басиста Маноса - отрывистый, гавкающий рык. Материал на "From Hell" преимущественно агрессивный и скоростной, однако музыканты не чураются среднетемповых фрагментов и редких соляков, стараясь разнообразить свою музыку. Восемь песен на полчаса - вот такое вот лаконичное "возмездие из ада". Из этих восьми я выделил бы титульную "Revenge", брутальный хит "Bloodfist" и неплохой инструментал "Morbid Revelation". В буклете все тоже традиционно и предсказуемо - сплошные богохульства и проклятия в адрес позеров, христиан, готов, лжецов и прочих предателей. На что можно попенять, так это на достаточно тихую и не очень убедительную запись (к сожалению, это своего рода визитная карточка многих греческих команд), но фэнов это вряд ли сильно смутит. Остается добавить, что тираж альбома ограничен - всего пятьсот экземпляров, так что заинтересовавшимся стоит поторопиться с его поисками. Alexander The Great: Жили-были в солнечной Греции, где как известно любому обитателю наших краев, есть все, четверо отроков. Хулиганили, как водится, лазали по соседским садам за апельсинами и прочими дарами местной земли. Но вот чего-то им все ж в той жизни не хватало. И томит что-то вроде, а вот что – не понять. Но рано ли, поздно, но однажды друзей осенило – а ведь нету в родных краях диковины заморской, СЕПУЛЬТУРОЙ называемой. Ну не родила земля грецкая такого, а может и родила, да только вырастить не смогла. И собрались тогда добры молодцы и решили – не может быть такого! Ведь в Греции есть Все, а если чего нет – так значит будет. И взяли они в руки гитары булатные, да возвели установки дробеметательные, в просторечии барабанами называемые, и начали вызывать дух сепультурный. Долго вызывали, не год и не два – смеялись люди над ними, не выйдет, говорили, у вас ничего. А те в ответ отгибали средний палец от кулака и тыкали им в злых людей, порчу от СЕПУЛЬТУРЫ отгоняя. И вот, настало время, и явили они-таки на свет безбожный плод трудов своих беззаветных, рожденный упорством и отвагой. И стал тот плод МЕСТЬЮ всем насмешникам и неверам. ИЗ САМОГО АДА вышел металлический монстр, выплавленный в пламени Ахерона и закаленный во льду Коцита. И явил он людям, что значит настоящий трэш-метал, и не знал он пощады и милосердия, не имел мира в сердце своем железном и нес смерть и разрушение всему, что встретится на пути его… И возрадовались сердца четырех друзей: есть теперь на земле древней эллинской своя СЕПУЛЬТУРА: настоящая, прямо как в годы золотой молодости чуда бразильского. И не беда, что размером она с палец получилась, глядишь – еще и подрастет, окрепнет. Главное, чтобы не раздавил кто или от ржавчины не рассыпалась… И вернутся тогда золотые времена “MORBID VISIONS” и вспомнят заморские прародители чуда волшебного отринутого ими ныне «Антихриста». И старый трэш-метал пройдет по Земле огненным смерчем, сея восторг и ужас в сердцах бесчисленных фанатов. Эх… А пока… Пока все как во времена рождения Легенды: подземное, едва различимое звучание, неразборчивые соло-проходы гитары, натужное сипение вокалиста, который, похоже, взял на себя эту роль от безысходности. Зато – с пулеметной скоростью, зато – с риффами, взятыми прямиком оттуда (из восьмидесятых), зато – с верой и надеждой в сердцах… Первый альбом за почти десять лет трудов… В далекой России… И пусть звучит он по-прежнему как наивное демо команды из середины 80-х, зато «по-настоящему». И теперь уж можно точно сказать, что в Греции есть Все. Даже своя СЕПУЛЬТУРА – только очень маленькая. Но ведь главное – чтобы мечты сбывались. 4/10 oldman http://darkside.ru/album/16523/
Alexander The Great: Удивительно: команда из Афин подписана на московском лейбле, и похоже, что сотруд- ничество коллектива и звукозаписывающей компании удовлетворяет обоих. Из названия лейбла видно, на какую музыку ориентиро- вана контора, – и ничего, кроме забойного трэш-метала, от дебютника Revenge ждать не приходится. Из обилия подстилей в рамках любимой тяжелой музыки Revenge выбра- ли нечто, что можно назвать «олдскулом», «прото-трэшем»… Или, не прибегая к помощи терминов, охарактеризовать так: Revenge – это Sepultura, Celtic Frost и прочие пионеры тяжмета, начинавшие свои карьеры аккурат с такой музыки. Ярость и честность песен греческих трэшеров не подлежат сомнению. Сразу видно, что альбом сочинен и записан в лучших традициях их кумиров, все сделано с любовью и тщанием истых фанатов. Тут тебе и рисованная обложка с Рогатым, поедающим распятого Христа, и черно-белая фотосессия команды (джинсы, косухи и вечные «козы» чуть ли не в каждом кадре), и, конечно, те- матика песен. «Jesus On The Cross», «Evil Nightmare», «Morbid Revelation» – одни назва- ния чего стоят! Музыкально здесь описывать почти не- чего. После коротенького интро слушателя ожидают 7 отличных боевиков, среди которых один инструментал и один кавер (речь идет о «сепультуровском» «Антихристе»). Материал записан достойно. Взять за основу «шумное» звучание трэш-метала 80-х, однако при этом прописать все инструменты так, чтобы они не сливались в кашу, а звучали мини-оркестром – это еще уметь надо. Беда многих банд, ко- сящих под олдскул, именно в том, что они за- ставляют режиссера в студии выкрутить ручки настроек в положение «мы тупо копируем звук двадцатилетней давности». Наверное, для этого много ума не надо. Гораздо сложнее все сделать современно и, в то же время, отва- лить необходимое количество уважения куми- рам. Revenge это удалось. Редкий пример. Alexander The Great: Thrash Massacre Records from Moscow, Russian Federation, is a very good source for anyone who's looking for a record label that concentrates on releasing albums with some obscure, quality bands. So if you are a sucker of old school thrash, then look no further. So far the label has (at least) released the Italian thrashers Death Mechanism's debut album titled HUMAN ERROR .. GLOBAL TERROR, Russian thrashers Mechanix's self-titled debut album - and now even Greek thrashers Revenge's 1st album, titled FROM HELL. Greece is really gaining more and more ground as a metal country with their killer sounding thrash bands. Bands like Suicidal Angels, Released Anger, Concrete Force, Mentally Defiled, Convixion, Crucifier, and Mortal Threat are but a few examples of this blooming and strong thrash metal scene in Greece - and now this thrash invasion has even nicely been continued by Revenge, which - based on the label's info kit about them, sounds similar to early Sepultura's MORBID VISIONS and SCHIZOPHRENIA era. Listening to FROM HELL, this above-mentioned description about them, is actually pretty easy to subscribe. There's indeed lots of that relatively primitive and early style of Sepultura in Revenge's sound. Hell, even the band's vocalist sounds a bit like a younger version from Max Cavalera - not to mention how much album's front cover artwork reminds of Sep's MORBID VISIONS album cover, with a crucified Jesus figure and a massive demon behind it. So talk about some Sepultura worship in the Revenge troops, ha! Anyways, Revenge can solidly thrash in the spirit of the past times, and even if old Sepultura has gotten such a clear and glorious tribute type of treatment in the hands of these Greek fellows in denim and leather, I found lots of fun myself when I was spinning through the album. Revenge's own cover version from a Sepultura song "Antichrist", sounds really well-done, doing just a lot of justice to the original version of the very masters in charge. Even FROM HELL's ending song called "Morbid Revelation", which is an instrumental tune, brought Sepultura's "Inquisition Symphony" off SCHIZOPHRENIA to my mind for some strange reason - although in the same breath I have to say "Morbid Revelation" is less riff-based and basically far less intense and powerful as Sep's song in comparison to it. There's not much else to be reported about either Revenge - or their debut album FROM HELL. What can still be said though, Revenge does sound good even if highly unimaginative due to their so straight and clear influences to early Sepultura's stuff. Alexander The Great: Культовый музыкант греческой метал-сцены Jim "Mutilator" Patsouris (оригинальный басист Rotting Christ и основатель Varathron) написал рецензию на альбом "From Hell". Вот как прокомментировали данное событие музыканты Revenge: Hello there! Jim Mutilator, is the former bass player of Rotting CHrist! (The very first albums, and the creator of Varathron!!!) Amazing review! Even if we would have paid him, he would't write such good words! Hahahahaha! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Рецензия: From the depths of the abyss or from the sewers, a music fossil came to life, named Revenge, bringing us the news from hell. Those living dead declare as their home the city of Athens, more accurate its’ dives and it seems that the passing time had no effect on them (maybe they were on hibernation or something) and further down you will see what I mean. The registered mail, “From Hell” is their debut, another aspect of sin perhaps and is sheltered by the Russian label Thrash Massacre Records. (How the hell did the came up with this deal??) Well, this quartet brings us 7 songs of blasphemous thrash metal and a soft intro song that deviously leads us to their dark and wicked paths (it starts as sneaky as the “7 Churches” of Possessed with that Mike Oldfields intro). As I mentioned before, time had no effect on them, as their music remains attached to the Thrash sound of the 80’s, till middle 80’s to be exact. Take the early Celtic Frost, Dark Angel of “We Have Arrived” and “ Darkness Descends”, Sepultura of “Morbid Visions”, mix them, add a spoonful of Sarcofago of “INRI” and there you have the “From Hell”. The blast beat is unstoppable; the keenness overflows like the old times, solos are cranky and the bass and the drums are real! Believe me you will find nothing as a reference to today. I see some of you already laughing even though hair started to fall and the belly started to grow. Head banging never stops, the volume is just a bit lower because the kids are sleeping or studying and your neighbors never got used to the music (they never will). As for the lyrics, they never diverge from the fossil spirit of their work. Completely aggressive, anti-Christian, envision through evil nightmares the morbid revelation and still more blasphemous things. For all of you that you just dusting your vinyls of that old time and don’t dare to put them on your player, fearing that if you listen to them again it will be fatal, it’s time to listen to the postscript of the legendary beginning of the extreme sound. Revenge may not have been existed back then but they are the creation of your thoughts for something that you miss so much, since our modern fitly times denying grimly to give it to us. Ah! Alexander The Great: There have been some great bands from Greece over the years like Rotting Christ, Zemial, Varathron & Necromantia to name a few. Get ready to add another name to that list, Revenge. These guys from the land of ouzo, gyro's, feta cheese & the Parthenon play raging death/thrash and they play it well. "From Hell" is the band's debut full-length release on Russia's Thrash Massacre Records. After several killer demos, I couldn't wait to check out this album and it was worth the wait. Revenge is fronted by Manos's rumbling bass, anti-Christian lyrics and raspy vocals. The riffs and solos played by guitar duo Aggelos and Illias are absolutely ripping as they combine some mid-paced riffing with full-speed thrash assaults played with a lot of aggression. Drummer Vagelis puts in a killer performance with some blistering double-bass, snare and cymbal work that sounds as great as the rest of the band does. They even throw in an excellent cover of "Antichrist" from Sepultura's "Bestial devastation" album and end the album with an instrumental featuring Nick Melissourgos on bass from another good Greek band, Suicidal Angels. "From Hell" was recorded at Live Studios and the production sounds decent. This was a killer album and fans of bands like Sodom & Possessed are sure to like it.
