Интересующиеся российским метал-андерграундом уже могли ознакомится с творчеством Лефтхендера по таким проектам, как Sea Of Desperation, Tenochtitlan, Raxa и ряду других. Альбом будет издан в двух форматах: cтрого-лимитированный дигипак (300 копий) и обычное "стекло" (jewel case). Оформиление выполнил Senmuth - коллега Левши по проекту Tenochtitlan. Данный альбом посвящен потерянной любви, сумасшествию и душевным болезням. В альбоме использованы тексты из дневников душевнобольных и образы, вызывающие грусть и тяжелые воспоминания. Меланхолия, проглядывающая из каждой песни, вызывает горькую ностальгию и мысли о потерянном. Печальные переборы акустической гитары с каждым шагом приближают нас к грани, за которой другой мир протягивает к нам свои щупальца. Вокал изменяется на протяжении альбома от пассивного, словно во власти дежа вю, до безумного и агрессивного полушепота. Но не вокал, а атмосфера ведет главную роль на альбоме. Также присутствуют эмбиентные вставки, добавляющие безбрежности, и перекликающаяся элегия акустики и пианино делают альбом более готичным. "Mood Diary" - это темная сторона души и мозга. Haarbn: Groves In Mist - Mood Diary Thursday, November 01 2007 @ 12:00 AM PST Contributed by: ZG “Groves in Mist” is one of the numerous bands a musician from Russia called Lefthander took part in. He participated in such projects as part Ethnico, Raxa, Sea of Desperation and some others, and this project became one of the pieces where his human emotions and musical ideas found expression. “Mood Diary” by Groves in Mist is the third album issued on Haarbn records, a russian label, specialising in ambient and metal music. I think I haven’t heard something more not just melancholic, but hopeless and sad since a long time ago, mainly based on piano, guitar and strings usage. I always thought that human insanity was a good and versatile topic to find reflection in music. One of the artists who perfectly did that was Sopor Aeternus. Here we have another musician, who lifted the veil and exposed the matter but from another point of view. If Sopor Aeternus tried to show it from inside, sometimes turning everything into evil, devilish circus, comedy, Lefthander rather shows things from the outside, from the point of the person who just witnesses everything that happens around, maybe the person who realises the problem. It is melancholy without mocking oneself, without making “evil fun” of the matter. It all came to the thing that even farewell suicide letter was used in one of the tracks called Falling Through the Window. As for the music itself, the sound, it reminded me Penitent on “Beauty of Pain” album and sometimes aforementioned Sopor Aeternus of middle-end of 90s period – sometimes it is able to draw a parallel with “May I kiss your wounds”. And atmosphere on some tracks made me think to Les Joyaux de la Princess atmospheres, especially “Fall Through The Window” track. It is the background and much reverberated piano passages that made me think to that industrial act. And as far as Les Joyaux de la Princess wake in my mind the visions of an old train station somewhen between 1920s and 1930s with a train approaching in the clouds of white steam, the cover reflects this part of the atmosphere really well. On the other hand, it may show many human thoughts united and collected in one image, things that bother a sick human mind. Everything is mixed and presented in gloomy, shadowy colours, the pictures are blurred as in a sick human mind. More than that this kind of package is pleasant to hold in the hands, the perception of the album starts at that entire moment when you feel the smooth texture of the thick paper box. Another pleasant thing – being able to find the lyrics in a thin booklet inside the package. And at the same time it is a bit weird: that’s not common – reading a really existing farewell suicide letter of a person who once was alive and now gone. You read and cannot quite understand what was ment to be said, coz your brain works another way, you perceive things another way and finally you feel a bit guilty and lost being not able to catch it. I have to mark out the first track Intro and track 6 – Luna Comes In Pain for they touched me the most. I really enjoyed track 11 – Providence with Blake for its transparency, some kind of hope, being at the same time melancholic. It is a farewell, the last word in a story, the last sound in a tune, and it has the hope. I also have to mark out tracks 4 and 7 – Murder And Confession and Too Last Elegy, but due to another reason. I realise that Lefthander was trying hard to sing, but slight whisper would sound better and more suitable according to my ears and the “experience” of whispering in some other tracks. It seemed to me that singing ruins the whole atmosphere created before. Haarbn: ни пизды не понятно, пусть левша ибёццо переводит Groves in Mist - Mood Diary Haarbn - 2007 Groves in Mist komt op mij over als het geesteskind van iemand die wegkwijnt van het zelfmedelijden wegens borderline. Dit komt misschien wat negatief over, maar als iemand zijn psychiater bedankt en als tekst voor een van zijn nummers een afscheid/zelfmoordbrief gebruikt, jeukt er bij mij toch iets. Ik weet niet goed te beschrijven wat, maar ik ben allergisch voor iets wat deze cd uitademt. Maar goed, een review behoort in eerste instantie om de muziek te gaan en niet om randverschijnselen. En over die muziek ben ik minder negatief. Groves in Mist is het eenmans projectje van ene Alex Lefthander. Lefthander brengt ons met zijn muziek rustige, simpele en dromerige akoestische muziek met een behoorlijk melancholische nasmaak. Sommige nummers op Mood Diary bevatten vocalen, maar veel ook niet. Naast vocalen maakt Lefthander voornamelijk gebruik van een akoestische gitaar en ik meen een paar zachte en lichte 'keys' te horen De muziek van Groves in Mist is redelijk monotoom en Mood Diary is dan ook eigenlijk een behoorlijke eenheidsworst. De nummers lijken extreem veel op elkaar en de cd kabbelt als een rustig beekje voort. De muziek op deze schijf is best mooi maar het ontbreekt deze heer volgens mij toch een beetje aan inspiratie. Naast dat alle nummers erg op elkaar lijken, zijn ze per stuk ook vrij kort en compleet niet uitgebouwd. Dit is best een leuk, fris schijfje om af en toe eens aan te zetten. Ik denk echter niet dat ik snel ga zitten hopen op een vervolg, tenzij die in tegenstelling tot deze cd daadwerkelijk iets te bieden heeft. Haarbn: Written by [89/100] Nihil Friday, 30 November 2007 Russian multi-instrumentalist Lefthander (Sea of Desperation, Tenochtitlan, Raxa, …) is one of those artists who never seems to run out of creative ideas. As with most of the man’s work, this solo-project is all about atmosphere. “Mood Diary” is an incredibly well put together musical journal of darkness and misery. Melancholic piano and guitar sounds form the basis for the album. Murmuring vocals and haunting synth sounds complete the setting. Influenced by bands such as Antimatter, Elend, Tenhi, Dead can Dance, etc. it easily outclasses most similar releases I have heard recently. This with the exception of a few passages where Lefthander decides to actually sing. The last song “Providence with Blake”, for example, is slightly ruined by off-key chants. However, taking into consideration the astounding quality of the music, it doesn’t have too much of a negative impact on the overall score. Haarbn: Groves In Mist (Russian Federation) "Mood Diary" - CD (2006) Sello: Haarbn Productions Género: Gothic Dark Ambient 7.50 / 10 Últimamente la federación rusa no para de deleitarnos con sus pequeñas joyas musicales. Concretamente esta es un proyecto paralelo de “Lefthander”, miembro de Sea of Desperation, que por cierto son muy recomendables para todos aquellos a los que les gusten grupos como Katatonia, Opeth o Rapture de su mejor época. “Mood Diary” es un álbum que se grabó en el invierno de 2005 al 2006 que lo forman once pistas. La música de Groves in Mist es ambiental, acústica, muy relajante y sobretodo, muy fría. Ese tipo de frialdad que tenían los álbumes más ambientales y acústicos de Dead in June. Se entiende que una grabación así sólo se pueda realizar en mitad del crudo invierno ruso. Los instrumentos utilizados para ello son la guitarra acústica, diferentes tipos de sonidos de teclado, pianos minimalistas e impresionistas, y la voz en limpio del propio “Lefthander”, que recuerda un poco a la de Mikael Åkerfeldt. Las atmósferas son de gran belleza y elegancia. Las melodías son muy sugerentes y visuales, que si te dejas llevar te produce una ensoñación melancólica, como esas que se tienen los días nostálgicos de lluvia antes del invierno. En algunos temas como “Join to misery” hay batería. Por lo que te producirán la misma sensación melancólica que algunos momentos acústicos de Katatonia u Opeth. Los temas más ambientales recuerdan ligeramente a grupos como Arcana, con sus momentos ligeramente góticos. Temas como “Luna comes in Pain” te traen a la mente la etapa del “Within the Realm of a Dying Sun” de Dead Can Dance, los padres de toda esta vertiente musical. Como nota curiosa y bastante morbosa, la segunda pista “Fall Through the Window” es la carta de despedida que escribió una persona antes de suicidarse. La carta es susurrada mientras suena una música muy melancólica, que con cierto estado de empatía te puede poner muy triste. Muy recomendable si te gusta la música atmosférica triste, o cualquiera de los grupos anteriormente mencionados. No lo dudes siquiera y dale una oportunidad a Groves in Mist. No te defraudarán. Last updated on Thursday 24 January, 2008 “Mood Diary” was the first album released by Groves in Mist, a project of the infinitely prolific Lefthander, who pops up in a number of Russian doom, ambient and metal acts. Spanning 37 minutes, it aims to be an ambient, atmospheric offering plumbing the depths of the depression of a man who sees fit to thank his psychiatrists in his liner notes. The main components of the music are sombre, echoing piano keys, gentle sparse acoustic guitars and the occasional synth base for atmosphere, such as on “Amnesia” and “Fall Through The Window”. Where Lefthander uses whispered vocals, or the choric chanting that makes an entrance on “Remission Tide”, this is inoffensive stuff, calming and intimate to have playing in the background. When he actually sings, however, as on “Murder and Confession”, life is less rosy, singing not being a strong point, and the lyrics, for some reason, being in broken English. “Fall Through The Window” actually takes its lyrics from a suicide note- I’m not sure what I think of this (my first reaction is ‘hmm, tacky’), but other lines on the album such as “Wherever you may be, please remember I sing for you” add genuine poignancy and curiosity. “Providence with Blake” reveals Lefthander’s literary affections, but William Blake is all about the terrible contrasts, the visions, the monsters, the angels, the drama. “Mood Diary” may have a history and a purpose, but for the listener there is too much linearity and sameness. Haarbn: Groves In Mist "Mood Diary" 13.3.2008 Diese außergewöhnliche Band stammt aus Russland und spielt, wie uns zu einem das Cover und zum anderem das Label vermuten lässt, Gothic Metal mit ambientem Einschlag. Die Rezeptur der Mannen führt dazu, dass man kreative, vor allem Eigenständige Songs auf hohem spielerischen Niveau anstrebt. Großer Pluspunkt ist zu Beginn, das Cover: Es versetzt einen in das Bild hinein, so dass man glaubt, man hätte sich aus dem virtuellen Leben heraus geklont und sich auf eine Zeitreise begeben. Eine Zeitreise, die Höhen und Tiefen auszudrücken vermag und in jeder Hinsicht Trauer und Freude versprüht. So ist Silberling „Mood Diary“ für den Hörer eine Möglichkeit, sich seiner Ungewissheiten zu stellen und auf Antworten zu warten, die man längst abgeschrieben hat. Musikalisch stechen Groves In Mist aus der großen Masse heraus. In verschachtelten Gefilden moderner Akustik und packender Piano-Parts, sind die Songs facettenreich und atmosphärisch der Songstruktur untermauert. Doch damit nicht genug: Mit bombastischen Kabinettstücken werden sich bei Tracks wie „Fall Through The Window“ oder Luna Comes in Pain“ jedem eingefleischten Meister der Musik das Herz öffnen. Die zum Teil hörbaren Hintergrund-Gesänge versprühen atemberaubende Momente und man ist so hin und weg, dass es fast schon eine Art Besessenheit gar Hinzügigkeit vermittelt. Die Jungs jonglieren gekonnt und sorgen mit exzellenten Trademarks und eingängigen Riffwänden für Unterhaltung und effektivem Entspannen nach einem harten Arbeitstag. Auch die „oriental string-violin“ dürfte gewiss jeden Interessenten plüschig mit warmen Melodien Anreiz verschaffen, ein Ohr zu riskieren. Sie kann man nicht wirklich in eine Schublade stecken, da man in sich eine Persönlichkeit voller Energie ausstrahlt. Fans, solcher dargebotener und ausgefallener Mucke, ist die Platte absolut zu empfehlen. Für mich persönlich bislang das Stärkste Album des Jahres! (2007) Bewertung: 6 / 10 Link(s): http://lefthander.musica.mustdie.ru/ LeftHander ist einer der Köpfe hinter den russischen und von mir sehr geschätzten Ethno-Metallern TENOCHTITLAN und projektiert Death Doom mit den weniger guten SEA OF DESPERATION. Und ist seit letztem Jahr zudem Mister Alleinunterhalter bei GROVES IN MIST. In dieser Funktion hat er mal gar nichts mit Metal zu tun. Psycho Ambient nennt man bei Haarbn Rec. das, was er macht und das durch seine intensiven Kontakte zur modernen Psychiatrie inspiriert ist. Ebensogut könnte man „Mood Diary“ der Neoklassik zurechnen, ist es doch ein sehr akustisches Album: Die Instrumentierung kennt die Hohlraumgitarre, das Cello und das Piano. Irgendwann gibt’s auch mal ein (!) schönes, unaufdringliches Stromgitarren-Solo. Und zarte, kaum störende Synthie-Einsätze. Als eine Minute vor Schluss ein (übrigens richtiges) Schlagzeug einsetzt, ist das Hallo natürlich groß. Dazu Gesang: an der Gregorianik angelehnte Chöre, Gewisper und mehrheitlich: ruhiger, nicht sonderlich prickelnder Klargesang. Viel Gutes fällt mir zu dem Album zunächst nicht ein Die Lieder dümpeln in der Mehrzahl unaufgeregt, ohne ernste Höhen und Tiefen vor sich hin. Den Stücken fehlt es, wenn nicht an Struktur, dann aber sicher an Dramaturgie. Aber das gehört sich im Genre ja so: --- Kühles Piano, unspektakuläre Gitarrenzupferei und dann und wann zirpt das Cello… ohne ernsthaft Akzente zu setzen. Selbiges gilt für die nur bedingt fesselnden Chöre. Naja, über den Klargesang habe ich ja schon gelästert. Wenn man das emotionslose Geflüster für die beste gesangliche Darbietung hält, dann scheint alles gesagt. (Dass in diesem Absatz kaum etwas anderes steht als in jenem zuvor, ist gewollt: Das spiegelt die Abwechslungsarmut des „Mood Diary“ ganz gut wieder.) Man könnte bei GROVES IN MIST also problemlos die ersten beiden Wörter streichen?! Nö. So einfach ist das nicht. --- Auch wenn man weder vor instrumenteller oder kompositorischer Höchstleistung in katatonische Starre verfällt, ist das Album alles andere als Mist. Denn prinzipiell haben die morbiden Klanglandschaften durch die man hier zu wandern aufgerufen ist, ihren Reiz. Die Bausteine sind halt bloß… nunja, schlicht, und zudem hätten sie eines Feinschliffs bedurft. Und doch gibt es Momente, für die „Mood Diary“ wie gemalt ist: Als Soundtrack zur Lektüre von Lautréamonts „Die Gesänge des Maldoror“ z.B. – Oder beim Chill-Out, wenn man mit apokalyptischem Kater früh morgens um 14:00 Uhr dem Eintreffen des Pizza-Services entgegenleidet. Unterm Strich: Im neoklassischen (Ambient-) Umfeld gibt’s zweifelsfrei abwechslungsreichere Sachen. Aber auch jede Menge weniger intensive und "ehrliche". Alexander The Great: Музыкант из Нововоронежа, известный на музыкальной сцене как Левша, выбрал себе "говорящий" псевдоним - это действительно мастер на все руки, самостоятельно освоивший множество инструментов и искусство звукорежиссера. На настоящий момент этот удивительный человек числится в составе аж 10 проектов, самые известные из которых - Tenochtitlan (этно-дум) и Sea Of Desperation (классический дум-метал). Groves In Mist представляет нам новую грань таланта Левши - это 40 минут очень красивой и спокойной музыки на стыке эмбиента и дарк-фолка. Композиции, представленные на "Mood Diary", никак не назовешь сложными - в примерно половине из них основная мелодия, сыгранная на акустической гитаре или синтезаторе, накладывается на эмбиентный фон, примерно как у Of The Wand And The Moon, а другая половина представляет собой пост-роковые баллады а ля Antimatter. Но в красоте этим мелодиям не откажешь, да и вокал (как шепот, так и тихое пение) здесь очень к месту. Другое дело, ЧТО этот вокал поет. Я на своем веку повидал немало "кривых" англоязычных текстов, но с таким ужасом, как у Groves In Mist, сталкиваюсь чуть ли не первый раз. Такое впечатление, что тексты переводили с русского при помощи компьютерного переводчика, причем не очень качественного - некоторые слова, которые я нашел в буклете "Mood Diary", вообще в английском языке отсутствуют, да и орфографических ошибок не счесть. Обидно, ведь смысл текстов довольно интересен - это попытка проникнуть в мозг сумасшедшего и посмотреть на мир его глазами. В тексте композиции "Fall Through The Window" ("Падение сквозь окно" - извините, не смог удержаться от того, чтобы перевести хотя бы название и показать вам, насколько безграмотны тексты) Левша даже использовал подлинную предсмертную записку самоубийцы, предоставленную Левше врачами некоей психиатрической больницы. Получился очень любопытный контраст - несмотря на то, что тексты прямо-таки кричат о боли, музыка остается спокойной и умиротворяющей. Говорят, что сумасшедшие, на самом деле, гораздо счастливее нормальных людей, и этот альбом - отличное тому подтверждение. Вот только воспринимать его адекватно ввиду ужасающей безграмотности текстов крайне сложно.
